My name is Valerie Garofalo, I studied broadcast journalism with an emphasis in news media at Brigham Young University and graduated in 2019.
I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY and I have worked between NY, LA, UT, and Miami.
I am currently a producer at Paramount for MTV's Fresh Out Live. I enjoy traveling and producing content along the way.

Is somebody gonna match her freak? This is an interview I wrote for Tinashe who performed her charting single "Nasty" on Fresh Out Live.
ICE SPICE
One of my favorite hobbies is discovering new artists on the internet and sharing them with my team. And as a fellow Bronx native I couldn't have been more excited to have stumbled upon Ice Spice on Twitter early on. I pitched her, we booked her, I wrote and produced the interview and the rest is history.

From managing social media content to producing weekly segments on BuzzFeed New's Twitter morning show: AM to DM, I had the opportunity to produce a social video with Justin Hartley from NBC's This Is Us.

Murderers Living Among Us: Who Killed Rosie Tapia?
Rosie Tapia was a 6-year-old from Salt Lake City, UT who was raped and murdered on August 12, 1995. We still don't know who her killer is.
For my senior capstone, I produced, wrote and edited this entire documentary on Rosie's death.
DIGITAL MARKETING
January 2018 - April 2019
At Y Digital Agency, I worked as an account assistant,
testing and researching social media marketing strategies
for local and national companies.
I have worked on projects with companies such as YouTube, Marriott, Subaru, Automaxx, and Parsons Behle Lab.
I have worked on various campaigns using SEO marketing with Google Ad Words, Facebook Ads, and Google Analytics.
Additionally, I had the opportunity to edit a video for
Automaxx's (a local car dealership in UT) campaign.
I interned for NY1 Noticias, the Spanish news channel for NY1 News. This entailed assisting reporters on stories, filming B-Roll, editing videos on Dalet, and
writing and translating news stories into Spanish.
To complete the internship, I was assigned a story to produce on my own. I interviewed a social worker in NYC about her impact in the Latino community. I filmed, interviewed and edited this feature story.

BYU Broadcasting: Radio Producer
September 2018 - April 2019
I was an assistant radio producer for two shows on BYU Broadcasting: The Apple Seed: Tellers and Stories and Highway 89 on 107.9 FM - Sirius XM 143.
Writing weekly scripts, I arranged for guests to come on the show to share their unique stories. I was even featured on some episodes of The Apple Seed.
NEWS MEDIA
August 2016 - April 2019
For the past couple of years, I have gained writing and video editing experience as a reporter, producer, and even weather anchor for NewsLine, a BYU student run newscast on PBS.
I traveled to Spain and Portugal to put together a story on tourism in the Iberian Peninsula.
